Go to the Root ~ The Four Core Ideals

Unity in Diversity
Is this an issue where we need to maintain unity? If so, we need to seek agreement.
Is this an issue where we can have diversity? If so, we need to look at how diverse opinions can be accommodated. Not sure which it is?
Go through the other principles to try to better understand the root issue.

Popular Sovereignty
Does this conflict have 'identity' as part of the root? In other words, we are each created in a specific way. When I do things my way and you do things your way, conflict can occur just because we are different.
How do we address this issue? Going through these ideals should provide some insight.

Democratic Equality
This has to do with authority. We are all created equal; yet we differ in how much authority we have. Our authority is determined by our roles and responsibilities. Authority should match responsibility. Legitimate authority is exercising our influence in areas where we have responsibility. Authority that is not legitimate is trying to control circumstances and others in areas outside of our responsibility.

Rule of Law
What is right and what is wrong? Resolving conflict is best done when all involved get on the same side, the side of trying to do what is right.
Sometimes, what is right and what is not right in a particular conflict is uncovered as the parties work through the issues.
